A Grand Day Out For #BikeWeek

We hosted our own event on Sunday to promote #BikeWeek and help to encourage cyclists to join us and learn about riding in a group as we toured around our local authority area, Renfrewshire.   Our club is open to all abilities and we had four different groups out from the 'Wee Wee Ring' (beginners, through to the regular Wee Ring (slower pace, less miles), Middle Ring, to Big Ring (faster pace, more miles & hills!).

Our Wee Wee Ring headed through Inchinnan & Erskine before an joining up with the regular Wee Ring on an alternative route through Bishopton, and then onto Houston & Bridge of Weir where they stopped at Bernie's Cafe Deli for some coffee & cake before heading up the road via Johnstone.

Our Middle Ring group headed much in the same direction except they added in a visit to Langbank which includes the rather steep Station Road climb! Not easy at all but everyone made it up - well done guys! It was then onto Houston, Johnstone, and Kilbarchan before they too used Bernie's Cafe Deli as their cafe stop. They followed this up with a journey along the Torr Road and then down to Lochwinnoch and over towards Newton of Belltrees to take on the Auchengrange Climb and headed home via the Braes.

Our Big Ring had extra milage and opted to start off their ride doing urban riding and finishing on hills. They went up Paisley High Street and through Ferguslie Park to Linwood, passing the On-X Linwood Sports Centre, then down into Johnstone, through Elderslie and then up the Glenpatrick Road to Foxbar. They headed through Paisley passing Barshaw Park where the Barshaw Gala Day was taking place. A short trip along Penilee Road took them to the new bridge over the M8, and through Renfrew, Inchinnan, Erskine, Bishopton, Langbank, then up West Glen and through Kilmacolm to Quarrier's Village to have coffee, cake and poached eggs on toast at the Three Sisters Bake.  Onto Bridge of Weir they cycled, then through Houston, Crosslee and Brookfield before turning towards Kilbarchan and heading up the Burntshields Road to Lochwinnoch, also taking on the Auchengrange Climb before heading back to Paisley again via the Braes.

Phew!!  We're knackered again just reading that!!

Thanks to all who came along to take part, it's great to see new faces (and some old ones), and thanks to our Group Captains for leading the groups through the courses.  Chapeau!!
