May saw us kicking off Series A of our club confined Paisley Velo Time Trial Championship in pretty grim conditions.  Despite the weather, we saw some really good times on the Georgetown Road course with a very tight leaderboard which was then split into two groups (a bit like the football league!).  The last round of the championship is in June so stay tuned to find out the results of Series A for Group 1 & 2!

The Cycling Time Trials Georgetown League also kicked off this month, and we’ve already seen Greig Mushet and Sam McGrath taking part and putting in some really strong times!!  It’s great to see our riders getting stronger and stronger in these events.

Speaking of Time Trials, Greig Mushet also competed in the Law Wheelers’ Cambusbarron 10 Mile Open TT, putting in a respectable time of 0:26:34.  He also followed this up with a time of 0:25:26 on Fullarton Wheelers’ Bill Moore Memorial event – without aero bars!!  Great effort Greig!!

We can’t forget our Velodrome riders, who took part in an ART an clocked up some impressive times!!

Members & friends also decided to take on the Five Ferries challenge this month, with our Big Ring riders cycling door-to-door, hitting over 110 miles from Paisley to Wemyss Bay, Rothesay to Rhubodach, Colintraive to Portavadie, Tarbert to Claonaig, Lochranza to Brodick, and Ardrossan back to Paisley.  A grand day out had by all!

The Golspie Crit was next on the calendar for May with Simon Arnold representing Paisley Velo.  Simon finished with a time of 0:32:45 - his fastest lap being 00:01:26 – well done Simon!

On the same day, members and friends took part in the King Of The Mountains Sportive -  a gruelling 110 mile course in the highlands with plenty of climbing thrown in for good measure.  Our riders tell us the event was really well organised, the weather was kind and the scenery more than made up for all the climbing!

To round off the month, Greig Mushet was back in action on the West Ferry National CTT Velopreda 25m TT setting a new PB of 01:04:09!  Great work Greig!!

Finally, our very own Don Smith took part in the 3 Pistes Sportive – 102 miles through the Cairngorms!!  Don completed the course in just under seven hours which is a fantastic effort given the amount of climbing he had to endure!!

We saw a few new faces on our Sunday runs, and they have remained well attended throughout the month with trips to the wind farm, Largs, Helensburgh, Balloch, a Big Ring Belter (ton) up to Arrochar, Rest & Be Thankful, Strachur, Dunoon – Gourock and back to Paisley via the Clune and more.  We also continued with our Hill Training Sessions – riders are definitely feeling the benefits of these sessions and it’s great to see so many people improving as time goes on.

Another cracking month for the club – and plenty more to come in June, culminating in our annual ‘Steel Is Real’ event which we’re really looking forward to.  More on that soon!
